Cindy Sheehan Tells the Story of Her Arrest

It's a lot more interesting than anything the Troofers are doing today:

I began to plan a way to join Matthis and Elaine when I went to the front of the barrier and saw my dear friends, who have always been there for me, lying on the sidewalk by themselves. Just as I was figuring out how to get over the barriers, the section I was at collapsed onto the sidewalk and I took the opportunity to step over hoping that dozens, if not hundreds, would follow.

Well, you can probably guess how that turned out; neither dozens nor hundreds followed.

Why, when the barrier was compromised, did more people not follow us to actually put their beliefs into higher relief than merely marching in a circle on Saturday? While we were being (tightly) handcuffed and loaded onto the hot paddy wagon, the crowd of on-lookers chanted, “This is what hypocrisy looks like.”

Indeed. She whines about the food, she whines about the cell, she whines about her fellow protesters not joining her. And she closes with a common slur about police officers:

Three of us went to pick up our property this morning at the Park Police station and as we were being jacked around, an officer named Thomas (Badge number 628) told me that if I “stopped getting arrested” I wouldn’t have to go through all of this.

I said: “when the wars stop, I will stop.” He actually then told me: “The wars will stop when we nuke them and take their oil.”

I wonder why they are called “pigs.”

Cindy never mentions Jon Gold. Jon's story is over at Troof Action:

From there, we were placed into a truck that had a VERY cramped sitting area. I am somewhat claustrophobic so it was hard for me to get in. I did. On the way to the jail, we were talking about how we should have been let go, among other things.

After we arrived at the jail, they took off our plasticuffs, and they frisked us. Then we were placed into what can only be described as a human kennel. The cells were SMALL, and comprised of steel walls, steel beds, steel sinks, and steel toilets. The bars were made up of big bars, and a steel mesh that kind of looked like this from Star Trek TNG. It was easily 85-90 degrees in there, with one big fan blowing. There was very little air circulation. My shirt became my pillow, and I put my socks in the water, and wrapped them around my head Rambo style in order to cool off.

Cindy's cell was too cold, Jon's was too hot. I like this juxtaposition though:

We all plead not guilty, and have a trial sometime in June, but one of the more interesting things to happen was a request from the White House to create a "stay away" area around the White House that if we were to enter, we would get an automatic sixth months in prison.

And:

I was often asked if I would do it again. My answer is without hesitation.

And yet he didn't go for the six month tour?

You couldn't make this shit up if you tried. "I am somewhat claustrophobic so it was hard for me to get in." No, it's because you're so revoltingly obese.

"There was very little air circulation. My shirt became my pillow... The bars were made up of big bars." It's just like reading excerpts from Trotsky's unpublished prison diaries.

As for the cops are pigs sentiments, that tells you all you need to know.

Preposterous! How are we to extract the oil if the place is irradiated?

See, this is the difference between douche bags like Sheehan and heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King. The whole point of Civil Disobedience is to GO TO JAIL. Then you plead your case in front of a judge and things evolve from there.

If you don't believe in your cause enough to be arrested for it then YOU DON'T BELIVE IN YOUR CAUSE.

There is an Episcopal priest up in Washington state who went to jail because he withheld paying his income taxes because he was morally against the Trident missle submarines based in his state. He did five years in prison. I do not agree with that guy one bit but at least I respect him because he was willing to put his beliefs on the line...in a non-violent way.

That was the whole point of the Free Speech movement of the 1960s, and some laws were actually changed because protesters willingly went to jail and then made their case in a court of law.

I was thinking the same thing. Somewhere, Ivan Denisovich is weeping over the horrors that Jon Gold had to live through.

Yes.

You're a moron.

DU is very weakly radioactive and couldn't cause "deformed babies".

Just another myth for the weak minded to believe.

And besides, deformed babies contain almost no oil, so what would be the point?

Fortunately, I never had the pleasure. And your point is? Or am I just wasting time expecting you to make a point that makes sense?

My point, Boris, should be evident. There's no point in 'truthers' like yourself sneering about Pat's 'stoicism', seeing as you're not prepared to do any real, genuine activism that might land you in trouble with the law.

So-called 'truthers' like yourself engage in hacktivism that incurs no personal risk. Accusing the US government of involvement in every conspiracy under the sun is easy to do. Holding your own government to account is a different matter. Russians who try to do so either go to jail, or they die. I'd be more impressed with you, Boris, if you'd speak truth to power in your own country. But because you're a coward and a hypocrite you never will, you little worm.

Thanks for a laugh, whoever you happen to be. I could simply say that you ought to first properly introduce yourself and shed your anonymity and then maybe I will allow you to discuss my courage. I could say that - and I would be right in doing so. But given that you have typed up a bit of text up there I will go a bit further and respond in more detail.

First of all, I am not sure why you are so focused on Russia. Yes, I was born in Russia but I graduated high school in Ukraine. In fact, I was never a citizen of the Russian Federation - I was only a Soviet citizen at one point. I am currently a US citizen so the US government is "my own government".

Secondly, it is wrong to say that those protesting the injustice in the US face no personal risk though admittedly that risk is lower than in many less tolerant societies.

Thirdly, you know very little about life in Russia - at least that is the conclusion I would have to make based on your pronouncements. And you know even less about my life and activities. Hence your judgment is about as utterly irrelevant as it can get.

So, once again, thanks for a laugh.

Boris,

In this country, you are free to say anything you like. And you assume the responsibility for your words as a result.

Always, remember, however, that we have every right to discuss your courage, or lack thereof, without your permission.

As I pointed out earlier, if you stop insulting our intelligence you might earn some respect.

B.J., it is the same way everywhere - you may be held responsible for what you say. Only in some places it means a civil suit, while in others an execution.

Now who is that "we", if you don;t mind me asking? You and your multiple personalities? Or are you, perhaps, royalty? Be it as it may - in this context my permission would mean me paying attention to the discussion - sure you can technically say whatever nonsense you choose, you just can't expect me to diligently listen.

As for me "insulting our intelligence" - if you are referring to yourself and your multiple personalities, I would be obliged to notice that it is mighty difficult to insult that which does not exist.

"You and your multiple personalities?"

We call those "handles" in this country, Boris.

I'm bje (bjedwards) here and on JREF, and jthomas on abovetopsecret.com. Well known.

You are welcome to refute me anytime, anywhere, Boris. As well as the other skeptics.

"I would be obliged to notice that it is mighty difficult to insult that which does not exist."

Those are just the insults of which I spoke. It's really bad manners. Try to do better, Boris.
